Blonde Electra wow the judges in the first live heat of X Factor

Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Mel B and Louis Walsh

Blonde Electra were among the acts to wow the judges in the first live heat of this year's X Factor series.

The crazy sisters gave an energetic performance of Kim Wilde's Kids In America which featured hula hoops and an elephant.

Judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini described Jazzy and Ruby King as "refreshing" and "a bit bonkers" while Mel B added: "Amid all the creativity and the chaos going on, you made it a proper performance."

Simon Cowell told the pair: "You still are a bit annoying but I actually do like you because I kind of look forward to you every time I see you."

Former Navy man Jay James gave a stunning rendition of Paloma Faith's No 1 hit Changing.

His slicked back hair and black leather jacket led judge Louis Walsh to liken him to a "young Kevin Costner".

The four wildcard acts brought back to the show after being kicked out initially were Stevi Richie, Jack Walton, Overload Generation and Lola Saunders.

Richie put on a fun performance of She Bangs, during which he tossed fake 100-dollar bills - with Cowell's face on the front - at dancing girls.

But Overload Generation's version of I Kissed A Girl failed to impress the panel.Mel B felt "it kind of fell apart" while Cowell claimed one member of the boy band was "gormless".

Stephanie Nala appeared to suffer from nerves as she sang Everything I Own, with Cowell telling the 20-year-old: "I don't think you've got the confidence to actually survive in a competition like this."

The first elimination will take place tomorrow night.
