'The Audacity of Taupe': Obama's new suit prompts social media mockery

Barack Obama was at the centre of a Twitter storm today, though not for his views on Islamist militants or the Ukraine crisis - but instead for his choice of suit.

The US president's tan attire was a striking break from his usual understated colours, and the web was quick to take note.

Ten thousand tweets were sent referencing the outfit since it was outed in a televised address on Thursday, most of which were less than complimentary.

Some found it refreshing that a male politician was the focus of so much talk about his outfit.

However, while many mocked, ITV News' very-own Alastair Stewart seemed to have no problem with the President's choice.

Back in 2012, Obama told Vanity Fair he only ever wore two colours of suit to work as it gave him one less thing to worry about in a day full of demands.

Yet despite all the excitement at his apparent change of heart, Obama seems not to have regretted his decision - at least according to one US journalist.
