High street bakery Greggs avoided a PR nightmare after a spoof of its logo went viral on social media.

On Google's search results, an image with the slogan "providing **** to scum for 70 years" appeared for the company instead of its "Always Fresh. Always Tasty" tagline.

Hackers also reportedly targeted the bakery's Wikipedia page, before it was quickly taken down.

The communications team however responded quickly to social media users who noticed the glitch, adding "all publicity is good publicity? That's what they say isn't it?".

The bakery contacted Google to sort the problem, happy to throw in some doughnuts to sweeten the deal.

Google's PR team also got in on the action, agreeing to fix the problem in exchange for a sausage roll.

Greggs even suggested tomorrow's Google doodle to be dedicated to the food retailer.
