Ed Sheeran is one of the greats, says Pharrell Williams
British pop sensation Ed Sheeran has been hailed by US star Pharrell Williams as one of the great singer-songwriters.
Sheeran is at the top of the US Billboard chart with second album X, and fans queued for hours to watch him perform at US Independence Day celebrations in New York today.
When asked about Sheeran, Williams replied:
ITV News Correspondent Nina Nannar reports.
Williams produced Sheeran's hit song 'Sing', which came out this year.
Suffolk-born Sheeran has achieved his first US number one album and, along with fellow Briton Sam Smith, has notched up a rare chart feat.
Smith is at the number two position for a second week with his debut release The Lonely Hour, making it the first time UK solo acts have taken the top two places in the US album chart for 21 years.
Eric Clapton's Unplugged and Sting's Ten Summoner's Tales were the last to do so.
Sheeran and Smith's albums are also at numbers one and two in the UK.
