'I don’t feel sad': Woman explains decision to film her own abortion
A 25-year-old abortion counsellor in the US has spoken to Cosmopolitan magazine about her decision to film herself having an abortion.
The three minute footage of her own procedure at the New Jersey clinic where she works was carried out to show women that “there is such a thing as a positive abortion story."
The video sees Emily Letts talk through her decision, explaining: “I’m not ready to have children."
The footage shows the woman's upper body during the abortion procedure.
Emily explained to the magazine why she decided to share her experience of a first-trimester abortion so publicly.
She said the "misinformation was amazing" and that women were convinced they "weren't able to have kids" afterwards.
“I couldn't find a video of an actual surgical procedure," she went on.
"There is no cutting, and risk of infertility is less than 1 percent."
At the end of the film, Letts addresses the camera, saying: “I don’t feel like a bad person. I don’t feel sad.
"I feel in awe of the fact that I can make a baby. I just want to share my story.”
