A Dutch teenager has been arrested after a 'joke' terror threat was tweeted to American Airlines yesterday.

Dutch police confirmed to ITV News that a 14-year-old girl is currently undergoing questioning after submitting herself to police this afternoon.

The arrest follows tweets purporting to be from someone named Sarah, using the name @QueenDemetriax_. The account has now been suspended.

The now-deleted tweet read: "hello my name's Ibrahim and I'm from Afghanistan. I'm part of Al Qaida [sic] and on June 1st I'm gonna do something really big bye"

The apparent joke didn't go down as well as had been hoped, with the airline responding that the offending tweeter's IP address and details would be sent to "security and the FBI".

The escalation saw @QueenDemetriax_ send a series of apparently panicked tweets, with the tweeter even attempting to shift blame on a friend.
