Why is this storm surge so severe?

.

This storm is a triple whammy of factors combining at the same time.

*1) *The shape of the North Sea funnels sea surges and directs them towards the East Anglia coast.

2) Strong winds are pushing the sea into a higher-than-normal surge, at a time when tides are high anyway.

.

3) Low air pressure in effect sucks up the sea into an even higher storm surge.
