New video has been released showing giant panda Yuan Yuan being reunited with her cub after a month apart.

The baby panda was removed from her mother after zookeepers feared that Yuan Yuan might kill or even eat her.

Taipei City Zoo has released video showing the tender moment when the pair were reunited.

The video shows the mother, Yuan Yuan, using her mouth to pick up her cub and then cuddling and breastfeeding her.

Yuan Yuan was one of the two giant pandas given to Taiwan by China four years ago to demonstrate its warmer diplomatic approach.

She gave birth to a female cub at a Taipei zoo a month ago.

When shown the cub through the bars Yuan Yuan shuffled as close as she could and licked the baby through the bars.

Keepers had already tested Yuan Yuan's reaction by showing her the cub through the bars of her cage the day before.

As the little cub squealed Yuan Yuan made a rare growl in response and tried to get through to the baby.

Despite the good response zookeepers eventually decided to reduce the risk of danger to the cub and put her back in an incubator.

They will allow mother and cub to meet regularly.
