An inquiry has been launched after a paedophile was convicted of raping an 11-year-old girl while he was still on probation.

18-year-old Opemipo Jaji followed the schoolgirl on a bus, and then dragged her into a park, subjecting her to a three-hour rape ordeal. Jaji then went into a youth centre from which he was banned as part of a supervision order.

Jaji, from Edmonton in north London had already been convicted of robbing and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl a year earlier, and making indecent images of children.

Later, he was given a 10 month detention and training order which he later breached.

Juliet Bremner reports:

The Ministry of Justice later said that a second investigation, known as a serious further offence review, will be launched into the case.

This will look at the 11-week period Jaji was under supervision after his conviction of indecent images of children.

Jaji is facing a life term when he is sentenced on June 7 after being found guilty at the Old Bailey of rape.
