Retired Navy Seals and CIA take aim at Obama: As they claim president is taking credit for the killing of bin Laden

It's only mid-August and already the Presidential campaign is getting ugly.

The latest incendiary contribution to the debate comes from a group of former CIA and Special Forces operatives. They call themselves OpSec - for Operational Security - and they have a grievance with the President. More importantly, they have the funding to go public with their accusations.

They claim that President Obama has deliberately leaked some of America's most important secrets in order to gain political advantage. These former CIA and military operatives say that the White House revealed operational details of the bin Laden raid, classified information about the CIA drone programme, and the existence of the Stuxnet computer virus aimed at Iran's nuclear facilities.

There's no doubt that behind the shadowy OpSec pressure group is Republican money. But it also plays into the view of some people that the credit for killing bin Laden should go to the CIA and to Seal Team Six and not to the politicians.

Democrats say this latest political ad is absurd and is similar to the attacks on John Kerry's Vietnam record launched by the so-called 'Swift Boat' veterans.

Either way, and to no surprise, the death of bin Laden has found its way into the heart of America's election campaign.

Did President Obama's show cool military and political judgement in ordering the raid? Or has his victory lap been beneath the dignity of the White House and jeopardized American secrets?

The voters can decide for themselves on November 6th.
