Serbian brides-to-be donned wedding dresses and running shoes for a race through the streets of the capital Belgrade.

About 50 women lined up for the annual 150 metre dash near the Serbian parliament.

The winner and the two runners up of the race will now have the costs of their upcoming weddings paid for.

First to the finish line was local Sanja Cigoja, who clocked an impressive winning time of 19 seconds.

The rest of the field were happy just to be part of the fun.

"My groom was waiting for me at the finish line, but (since I didn't win), the wedding is off this year," one competitor joked.
