French demand Crown Jewels from the Queen to compensate for murder in 1499
The French city of Angers is demanding the Crown Jewels from the Queen in compensation for a murder which took place in 1499.
The Daily Mail reports that the city is calling for compensation for the murder of Edward Plantagenet, the Earl of Warwick - who was murdered 513 years ago.
Angers, in the Loire Valley, has provided some of the greatest monarchs in British history, including Richard the Lionheart and Henry V between 1154 and 1485.
Edward, who was murdered in the Tower of London in 1499, was the house's legitimate male line came to an end.
The Queen will be sent an official petition in September asking for compensation and an apology during an annual cultural festival celebrating Angers' history.
