Love Island

9 things we learnt on day 1

Day 1 saw the arrival of 12 sparkling new Islanders, all ready to set out on their quest for love. Between the coupling up, the dramz and a double trouble late arrival, we didn't know where to look. Except for at all of those abs... Anton suffered an immediate and severe case of wandering eye (it must be something to do with the heat, right?), while Amber's brutal honesty towards Callum... and Anton... and Sherif... had us hooked, and then just as everyone was coupled up and playing nicely, we threw two mighty men into the villa to shake up the numbers, leaving the OG boys ready for some hard graft. Oops. Here's what we learnt on day 1.

1. Flack's first entrance was everything we could have hoped for

The hot wheels. The hair flick. The sunnies. The walk. Sound the Love Island klaxon, the games have officially begun...

2. Girls will notice if you shave your legs

First impressions count, and nothing goes unnoticed when you're exposed to a line-up of single ladies under the blazing Spanish sunshine. Anton's smooth, smooth legs didn't do it for Amber, but the gym buff stood proud and took his legs over to Amy instead to create the first couple of the series.

3. A yellow shirt is apparently a risky choice

Sherif's big entrance didn't quite go to plan when none of our chickas stepped forward for him, with two of the ladies blaming his shirt choice for their hesitation. "It is what it is," he shrugged before picking Amber to couple up with. We're not quite sure what they're on about - we thought the silky threads were a vibe.

4. Anna's type is HEIGHT

Anna made it known to us all that she knew exactly what she was looking for from her time in the villa: The One. No pressure then... And she proved to be a woman of her word when she stepped forward for a whopping ZERO of our buff boys. Was it their looks? Their personality? No, for Anna, it was their height, or more specifically, lack of. We like a girl who stands her ground, and we've got a feeling our Anna's not about to settle for anything less.

5. Tattoos don’t make a bad boy

Poor Michael. A few harmless tattoos and some hard-earned rippling abs left the ladies all suspicious, labelling our fit firefighter as a 'heartbreaker' (credit to Yewande for that one). There’s a sensitive lad in there ladies, don’t you know?

All was not lost however when this science-savvy pair later found some common ground over mutual appreciation of lab coats. Could it be the formula for love for Michael and Yewande?

6. There IS such a thing as too nice

Poor Callum. A gentleman, a romantic, a man of experience, and let's not forget those rippling abs... but it's just not good enough for our Amber, who declared to the girls that he's simply too nice for her.

At least she found time to return the kindness... by calling him old. Ooof.

7. Willy socks are not the same as woolly socks

The girls' chat about Yewande's WOOLLY bed socks left Lucie all flustered and wondering what she might have signed up to on her very first night in the villa.

An easy mistake to make...

8. Anton moves FAST

It's only the first night, and despite coupling up with air hostess Amy just hours before, Anton made no bones about the fact that Lucie was 100% his type on paper, and strutted over to where she was cosying up to Joe to tell them both as much.

Savage, but if you don't ask (and don't graft...) right?

9. The fury has been unleashed

There have been no serious dramas (yet), but the late arrival of two spicy specimens certainly had the Islanders rattled, leaving us thirsty to find out who Tommy and Curtis will choose to couple up with - and which of the remaining boys will be left feeling lonely. Pass us the popcorn... it's showtime.
