US Election 2016: Live updates
Donald Trump will become the 45th US president after a hard-fought battle with Democrat Hillary Clinton. He clinched victory in a number of key swing states including Florida, Ohio and North Carolina.

Update: 17.44pm - Obama invites Trump to the White House to discuss transition
President Obama will meet Donald Trump at the White House tomorrow so that they can discuss the transition of power that will happen between now and January.
He said 'We are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country'.
Update: 16.30pm - Hillary Clinton gives her concession speech.
This loss hurts but please never stop believing that fighting for what is right is worth it.
Losing the election was 'painful' but America 'owes Donald Trump an open mind and a chance to lead', Hillary Clinton said after conceding the election to Donald Trump.
In her concessionary speech she said she had offered to work with the president-elect and congratulated him on his win.
The Democratic candidate apologised for not winning the election but said she still believes in America and 'always will'.
She also addressed young people by telling them to 'never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it'.
Update: 16.38pm - Theresa May writes to Donald Trump reaffirming 'special relationship'
Theresa May has written to formally congratulate Donald Trump on becoming US president.
The letter stressed the special relationship between Britain and America, said Downing Street.
Update: 1.10pm - Obama resolves to work together with Trump during 'warm' congratulatory phone call.
Barack Obama had a "very warm conversation" with Donald Trump when he called him to congratulate him on his election victory.
The Democrat invited the president-elect to the White House to discuss the transition of power.
Update: 11.39am - Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby 'praying for the people of the United States'
The archbishop also said he hoped Mr Trump would be given "wisdom, insight and grace" as he faces the challenges of the next four years.

Celebrities have flocked to social media to express their concerns, anger and fears following an incredibly long and nail-biting election night, which saw Trump topple Democrat rival Hillary Clinton to become President-Elect of the United States.

Donald Trump has made his first speech since the results were announced.

The new President of the US will be known when Michigan's result is declared, which should be by 7am UK time - without which Democrat Hillary Clinton almost certainly cannot win.

UPDATE: 05.25am Dollar plummets as markets go into meltdown
The US dollar sank and stocks plummeted as mayhem hit global markets in early Wednesday trading, as investors braced themselves for the possibility of a shock win for Republican Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, the key states still left to declare are Wisconin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Trump still leads Clinton 244 to 209.
UPDATE: 4.55 am: Trump supporters already celebrating
Trump supporters in the US are so confident of his win, they have already started celebrating across the country.
Meanwhile, some of Hillary Clinton's camp are reported to have "tears in their eyes" as the likelihood of Donald Trump becoming President becomes increasingly likely.
Trump has also just won the state of Utah and his advisor Curtis Ellis has described it as "A great night for people around the world".
A 269/269 tie between both candidates is still possible
UPDATE: 4.35am: Trump clinches Flordia and edges closer to victory
Donald Trump has taken the key swing state of Florida, alongside Wisoncin and looks set to win the US Presidential Election. The Trump camp are claiming to be on the "edge of victory" as the Republican Party are also set to retain control of congress.
Meanwhile, Clinton's aides have said that they are expecting a long night ahead.
Trump now leads 229 to Clinton's 209.
UPDATE: 4.27pm: Clinton maintains narrow lead but Trump favourite to win
An aide to Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has admitted "she has had to fight for everything her whole life" as the election tally enters its final hours.
The New York Times are reporting a 93-95% chance that Donald Trump will be the next President of the US.
UPDATE: 4.05am: Clinton takes lead
Huge win for Hillary who carries California with 55 electoral votes. Clinton is now ahead.
Trump currently has the lead in Michigan.
Exit polls suggest that women were not voting for Clinton in the numbers that polls predicted that they would.

Donald Trump is leading the race to The White House. In a possible outcome that few predicted, the Republican candidate has taken a number of democratic States and is currently favourite to take the key state of Florida.
The major West Coast state polls including California, Oregon and Washington will close in a few minutes.
Global stock markets are sinking and the Mexican currency is plunging as initial results from the US presidential election come in.

The key states of Ohio and North Carolina are too close and too early to call respectively, as Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton await the verdict of US voters.
Trump currently leads Clinton on the popular vote 149-109. 270 votes needed to win.

UPDATE: Trump casts his vote
Donald Trump has cast his vote in New York.
Accompanied by his wife Melania and daughter Ivanka, the Republican candidate cast his vote at the Midtown Manhattan precinct where he is registered.
UPDATE: Topless protesters ejected from Trump's local polling station
Shortly before Trump arrived at his local polling station in NYC, two topless women protesters were ejected from the premises and reportedly arrested.
A video posted on Twitter shows one on the women had 'Femen' written on her back, suggesting they may be from the feminist protest organisation.
UPDATE: Clinton places her vote
Hillary Clinton has cast her vote alongside her husband Bill Clinton at their local polling station in Chappaqua, New York.
The candidate said voting for herself was "the most humbling feeling".
Her opponent Donald Trump will vote later on today.
