Lord Jeffrey Archer says we all need to just ‘get on’ with Brexit
Former Conservative politician and best-selling author Lord Jeffrey Archer joined us on the show today to share his thoughts on Brexit, Trump and his latest novel.
He said: “I voted Remain and was convinced we would win, but my attitude is simple, we lost. We live in a democracy. Get on with it!”
Asked why Theresa May didn’t seem to know what the shape of that deal would look like, he added: “We don’t know until the terms come back. How can she? We are at the final negotiations.”
After Adil pressed him on whether he believed a deal had already been agreed behind the scenes, he said: “I think that there is no doubt that nine-tenths is already printed up and in black and white. The Irish Border is a problem, [but] they will sort that out.
On who he wants to lead the Conservative Party, he said: “Theresa May, thank you very much indeed. I can tell you over the years… you cannot tell who’s going to be the leader of any Party until two weeks before. You wouldn’t have got Margaret Thatcher until two weeks before, you wouldn’t have got John Major until two weeks before.”
Asked about President Trump, he said: “I’m as appalled as most people, I think [the situation is] very frightening. What I have no doubt about is, that we will find out the truth in the mid-term elections next week, because that will tell us what the American people think, not sophisticated Londoners like you think, you are always out of touch, I’m out of touch too. You’re in the ‘Westminster Bubble’ you three!”.
