Jamie Oliver speaks out against school bake sales

I think what he's trying to do is simplify the message to people that actually we have a crisis and no one's taking it seriously

Jamie Oliver has spoken out against school bake sales, saying he thinks they send out the wrong message about healthy eating.

The celebrity chef has often been a pioneer of healthy diets for the nation's youth - but has he taken it too far this time?

June O'Sullivan from the London Early Years Foundation says although the thought of banning bake sales might seem extreme, the issue Jamie is trying to address is a very serious one.

"I think what he's trying to do is simplify the message to people that actually we have a crisis and no one's taking it seriously," she said before telling us there are 'many other ways' to have fun in schools that don't involve sugary treats.

However Jack Monroe doesn't think they should be banned, pointing out: "It's about getting kids into the kitchen."
