Free mobile charger and Dover to Calais returns!

Capital One slashing cashback, free £20 mobile charger, P&O £24 Dover-Calais day return plus wine, 25% off LK Bennett and more. These are our Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis’ Deals of the Week.

Remember, deals can change quickly, even while I’m on the programme. So always double-check the terms and conditions before spending. Plus, while I hope these deals will save you cash, don’t spend if you can’t afford it, don’t need it, or won’t use it.

Web exclusive: Wallis 20% off

Buy a copy of this week's Woman magazine (99p, Lorraine Kelly on the front) and on page 26 you'll find a code to enter online at Wallis and a voucher to show in stores. The discount is valid on full-priced items only until Sunday 31 May. It can’t be used with other promotions or on gift cards.

Capital One slashing cashback – get up to 5% elsewhere

Last month the EU voted to introduce a cap on ‘EU interchange fees’ – the fees retailers are charged when credit and debit cards are used – starting later this year. In my view this is a lose-lose for consumers as it was always going to hit cashback and reward credit cards and retailers are unlikely to pass on the gain..

Now sadly Capital One has proved this right – it is killing or slashing its cashback from 1 June. Many of its customers have been tweeting me @martinslewis to vent their anger, as some make £100/year from this. Yet there are alternatives.

What are cashback cards?

These are credit cards which pay you to spend on them, in the hope that you’ll rack up interest. Yet as long as you set up a direct debit to repay the card IN FULL each month to avoid interest (and never miss the minimum monthly payment)– it’s just like using a debit card that pays you.

You can find full help, best buys and options in Martin’s Top Cashback Credit Card Guide, which also includes an eligibility tool so you can find out which card you’re most likely to be accepted for.

In brief though, Amex Platinum pays 5% cashback for three months (max £100 back) then tiered rates of up to 1.25% - and Amex is unlikely to be covered by the new cap.Santander 123gives 3% on petrol/trains (max £9/month back, 2% in department stores, 1% at supermarkets but has a £24 annual fee so is only best for big drivers.Aqua Reward is designed for poorer credit scores, and pays a flat 0.5% - though if you fail to repay it’s a hideous 34.9% rep APR.

Free EE £20 mobile charger

All EE, Orange and T-Mobile customers with a 30 day, 12 month, 18 month or 24 month mobile, tablet or broadband plan can get a free £20 mobile charger called a “power bar”. Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) mobile customers can also get the deal as long as they've been with EE for at least three months.

Once you get one you recharge it yourself, or pop into any EE store if you’ve used the power and swap it for a charged one. To get one:

- Mobile customer: Text POWER to 365 (texts cost 35p).- Broadband customer: Text JOIN plus your EE landline number to 60005 (texts cost 35p).- Tablet customer: EE has yet to confirm how you can get it. It says this information will be available today.

Once you've sent the text you'll receive a code, which you need to show in any EE store (not Carphone Warehouse) to get the power bar.

Martin’s quickies

- P&O £24 Dover-Calais day return and six bottles of wine: Go via this specific P&O Ferries link and the code DIRECTDT should be auto-filled – this’ll get you six ‘free’ bottles of wine (normally £30) when you book a Dover to Calais day return for a car or motorcycle from £24 return. Book by 11.59pm on Thursday 30 April for travel until Sunday 10 May and the £24 return is valid on Sunday-Friday return journeys only (Saturday sailings are £29). The offer excludes Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April. Show the voucher (issued at check-in) to get the wine from the on-board shop on the outward journey only.

- LK Bennett 25% off: If you use the code GRS15 online at luxury fashion brand LK Bennett you can get 25% off until 11.59pm on Monday 27 April (delivery's £4.95). If you want to use this offer in a store, buy a copy of this week's Grazia by Monday 20 April (£2, Jennifer Aniston on the front) and on page 126 there's a voucher to use by Monday 27 April. There are a few exclusions so check before you pay.

- Good news - student loan rates cut to 0.9%: Every September the student loan interest rate is changed based on March’s RPI (inflation) and this week we learned RPI was 0.9% (it was 2.5% in 2014). So while not confirmed, from September the new rates will likely be… Pre-1998 starters: Drops to 0.9% from 2.5%. 1998-2011 starters: Drops from 1.5% to 0.9%. 2012+ starters:Drops from 5.5% to 3.9%.
