Martin's got some corking deals
New 22mths 0% NO FEE debt shift, £8 champagne trick, Eurostar seat sale, £25 off La Redoute and 20% off M&S. These are our Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis’ Deals of the Week.
Remember, deals can change quickly, even while I’m on the programme. So always double-check the terms and conditions before spending. Plus, while I hope these deals will save you cash, don’t spend if you can’t afford it, don’t need it, or won’t use it.
Shift debt for record-longest 22 months 0% and pay no fee
A balance transfer is where you get a new card that pays off the debt on old cards for you. So you owe the new card but at a cheaper interest rate. Normally even with 0% cards there’s a one-off fee for doing this. Yet a price war means we’re seeing ever longer no fee cards – so do that and clear the debt in time and it’s totally free.
Last Friday BOOM, the AAlaunched the new longest-ever 22 month 0% no fee balance transfer card, then on Monday POW Tesco responded but only increased from 19 months to 21 months. Yet don’t just apply in hope, that hits your credit file Martin’s full best balance-transfers guide includes a free eligibility calculator which gives card-by-card odds of which you’re most likely to get – so you can home in on your winner.
Always follow the Golden Rules
a) Never miss minimum monthly repayments, or the bank can end your 0% deal and charge far more. b) Clear the card or balance transfer before the 0% ends, or the rate rockets to 19.9% APR for the AA, and 20.6% APR for Tesco. c) Never withdraw cash or spend on the card. It's not at the 0% rate. It's often far more, and just doing it can hurt your credit file.
Quick: Six bottles of champagne for £8ish each
You'll need to go quick with this one as I suspect it will sell out fast, but there's a corking trick to get six bottles of champagne for £8ish each through a code stacking trick with Sainsbury's – though to get the full discount you'll need to be a newbie to online shopping with Sainsbury's.
Here's what you need to do (note due to alcohol promo laws this doesn’t work in Scotland).
1. Find reduced wine or champagne. Go online to Sainsbury'swhere Antoine De Clevecy champagne is now £14 a bottle (was £18) and Sainsbury's Blanc de Noirs £17 (was £20).
2. Buy any six bottles to get 25% off. Order and get delivered or collect six bottles by Monday and you automatically get a further 25% discount (this works in store too, but the rest doesn’t). So six Antoine De Clevecy are £63, that’s £10.50 a bottle.
3. Code for newbies. If you’ve never shopped at Sainsbury’s online before, at the checkout enter the code SCPFCTTXF and you’ll get £16 off when you spend over £80.Yet the T&Cs say the discount can’t be on booze, so you’ll need to buy at least £17 worth of normal groceries to make it work (and get over £80 in total).
Stock is meant to be decent, but there’s heavy demand. In past incarnations of this deal Sainsbury's has substituted for more costly champagne if it runs out. So select “no substitutions” in your preferences to stop that happening (if you don’t you can always reject delivery). Delivery is £1-£6 or you can collect from a store for free. And of course, please be Drinkaware.
